Development of Communication based Intersection Safety Support System (ISS)
A wireless communication based intersection safety support system is developed to prevent car accident at intersection. One of main algorithm is an intersection optimal pass support that recommends appropriate speed to pass the intersection with a higher acceleration during green light or to pass with a slower speed spending red light time without stop. The other is an intersection collision avoidance safety function that system gives a driver a collision warning when car crash caused by traffic sign violation of other vehicles is expected. IEEE 802.11p based WAVE module is adopted as a communication device between vehicle and infrastructure. A relative distance between subject and object vehicle is calculated using GPS and vehicle sensor information. A control algorithm of intersection support and safety is developed and tested using test vehicle and traffic light system.
