BR'S NEW TRIBOMETER TEST TRAIN

Adhesion varies with time, place and weather conditions in a manner at present little understood. To build up a picture of adhesion variation through the year over tracks carrying all types of traffic, a twelve-month adhesion test programme has been started to survey adhesion levels on a circular route embracing all these variables. BR has developed a tribometer test train and when the first test period finishes the results it has obtained will form a "data bank" of prevailing adhesion conditions from which the correlation between adhesion and such factors as type of traffic, weather and time of day, can be determined.
