Application Methodology of a CO₂ Emission Model Combined with a Mesoscopic Traffic Simulation Model

The authors developed a mesoscopic CO₂ emission model to estimate the effect of ITS measures. It is necessary to consider driving behavior when calculating the reduction of CO₂ emission of ITS measures. However, mesoscopic traffic simulation models cannot expressly process driving behavior. Three options to consider driving behavior change in a mesoscopic CO₂ emission model were suggested. The accuracy of Option 3 (designed running pattern method) was validated using the result of field tests for a normal driving case and an Eco-driving case. The authors confirmed that the result of field tests and the result calculated by the mesoscopic CO₂ emission model have similar trends. As an example, the authors calculated the CO₂ reduction effect using our mesoscopic model in Kashiwa City, for cases in which Eco-driving and Eco-routing are popularized.
