Dual-Band Circularly Polarized Patch Antenna with Parasitic Elements for Automotive Applications
This paper presents the dual-band circularly polarized patch antenna for automotive applications. The proposed antenna is composed of the square patch element for the Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC), the square-ring patch element for the Global Positioning System (GPS), four conductive parasitic elements on the ceramic substrate, and four L-shape slot parasitic elements on the ground plane. As a result of the calculation of the antenna characteristics, the conductive parasitic elements and L-shape slot parasitic elements have an effect on improving the antenna gain of the DSRC patch element without deteriorating the antenna characteristics of the GPS patch element. Moreover, the radiation pattern and the axial ratio of the fabricated antenna are measured. It is shown that the measured results are mostly in agreement with the calculated results.
