Analysis of the Use of Quick Chargers for Electric Vehicles in the North East of England
This paper summarises the findings relating to the North East’s Plugged in Places project and the Switch EV electric vehicle demonstrator trial. Since 2010, over 1100 charging points have been installed in the region through the Plugged in Places project, including 12 quick chargers (50 kW DC) at key points along the road network. In the same timeframe, more than 90,000 electric vehicle journeys have been recorded and analysed . This paper provides an overview of how intelligent transportation systems (ITS) can create the link between the electric vehicle driver and the charging infrastructure, with particular focus on quick chargers.
