Data Collection & Congestion Mapping using Existing PTZ Cameras
The prevalence of CCTV cameras in traffic infrastructure has become more ubiquitous as data transmission standards have improved. The typical use for this technology has been limited to actuation for video presence detection systems and surveillance for pan-tilt-zoom cameras. Breaking step with convention, the City of Colorado Springs in the USA adopted novel technology to process video from their PTZ cameras resulting in data feeding a real-time congestion map providing a valuable resource to road users while maximizing utility of existing infrastructure.
