NOISE CONTROL ON SHIN KANSEN
JNR announced plans last January to spend 80,000 million yen on soundproofing measures to reduce noise alongside Shinkansen lines to 80 dB(A) following complaints in urban areas traversed by the Sanyo line. Kenjiro Miyaji, Vice President (Engineering) and a Member of the JNR Board, explains that this mainly involves the erection of soundproofed barrier walls as close to the train as possible on viaducts and embankments, but the type of track structure is also a factor.
