Eco-driving for clean vehicles: optimise energy use for trams and e-buses
The introduction of alternative and clean fuels, new and renewed vehicle technologies (CNG, electricity, hybrid etc.) helps reduce energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and noise pollution. These new technologies require adaptation of how to use them in the best way. Professional driver training in terms of eco-driving and the correct vehicle handling has to consider and react to these new technologies. Therefore, training and education services for the safe eco-driving of clean vehicles in the electric public transport sector have been developed for trams, hybrid buses, trolleybuses or e-buses (equipped with super capacitors) in the framework of the Intelligent Energy Europe Project “ACTUATE - Advanced Training and Education for Safe Eco-driving of Clean Vehicles”. This paper will outline the development of a training programme for safe eco-driving of clean vehicles and the impact evaluation approach within the framework of ACTUATE.
