RHEINWERFT'S ANSWER TO OIL POLLUTION
The article describes the "Rheinwerft Oil Removal Unit." Basically, the device comprises three circular pontoons disposed and strutted triangularly inside forming a floating basin where the water level is lower by means of a pump housed on the pontoons. This allows the floating oil to flow into the artificial well. A second pump provides the means to draw the oil from the well without drawing off any water. This results in 100 percent oil being pumped into the collecting device ready for reclamation. The oil spill problem is discussed in general and other methods are compared to Rheinwerft's.
