INTEROCEANIC CANAL NAVIGATION CRITERIA

The problems associated with construction of an interoceanic sea level canal linking the oceans at Panama are dealt with. It is shown that the selection of navigation criteria for an interoceanic canal requires the consideration of the characteristics of the shipping which will use the facility and their hydrodynamic interaction with the canal bed and banks and other ships. The results of an evaluation of existing knowledge are presented for effectiveness in application to design.
