Modelling accessibility to manage urban mobility: the example of the future Lyon metropolitan area
This paper proposes an accessibility modelling applied to the future Lyon metropolitan area in 2030. The first part presents methodology and transport policy scenarios. More than a “business as usual” situation, planned road and public transport infrastructures are modelled with the western ring or bypass road urban public transport network development. Accessibility results obtained for year 2030, and presented in a public consultation in 2012, are directly use to manage urban mobility and in fine land-use planning. In spite of low travel time gains, accessibility increase on the western areas could impact location choice some years after the ring implementation. Facing such results, mapping accessibility results give information on location of zone which benefit from the new policy, and conversely.
