AUTOMATIC TRAIN OPERATION BY MINI-COMPUTER--ATOMIC
For the purpose of developing the automatic train operation (ATO) system of the future SHIN KANSEN network, the research of ATO by mini-computer on the cab, named "ATOMIC", has been promoted. The program of the computer was developed, improved, and applied to series of tests on the SHIN KANSEN using the testing train (951 type), one of the prototype train for the SAN-YO SHIN KANSEN, presenting promising results. In this article the basic ideas of this system and the experimental results are introduced.
