Tailoring a Reference Model for C-ITS Architectures and Using a DATEX II Profile to Communicate Traffic Signal Information
There are well-accepted structures for the emerging Cooperative Intelligent Transportation System (C-ITS) architectures which become clear in several research and development (R&D) and FOT projects. The first release of standards for C-ITS in response to the European Commission Mandate M/453 tightens these structures. The big challenge is to merge these architectures on existing urban systems with focus on connecting legacy, i.e. to fit them into existing urban architectures and constraints, bringing forward urban seamlessness. Road Operators should be aware of having more than one possibility to publish their data, which is opportunity and duty at once. This paper shows one example, how to tailor a generic C-ITS architecture developed in the project SEAMLESS to the needs of the use case "Traffic Light Phase Assistant" and gives a profile at hand for a DATEX II communication.
