EUROPEAN YARD RETARDER SYSTEMS
An electodynamic retarder, which can be installed on curves, allows retardation force to be governed by wheel velocity, has few parts and reduced maintenance and, because of the eddy current principle involved can retard greasy wheels, is described. Data are also included on a hydraulically-actuated retarder (dowty retarder) which has no external connections and is simply bolted to a rail to assist in train classification.
