Geosynthetics in New Transportation Applications
Some of the newer applications of the use of geosynthetics and designs for transportation projects are presented in this article. The article demonstrates how geosynthetics improve the constructability and performance of transportation projects, while at the same time reducing costs. Geosynthetics will play a major role in future transportation projects because of the urgent need to upgrade the United State's (US's) aging infrastructure and to stimulate the stagnant economy. The article presents applications for the following: deicing pads; load transform platforms, moisture barriers; underground stormwater management chambers; pavement separators; and tunnel liners.
