THE FIRST FIFTY YEARS OF THE INTERNATIONAL UNION OF RAILWAYS

CINQUANTE ANNEES DE L'UNION INTERNATIONALE DES CHEMINS DE FER

The authors, who are respectively the Secretary-General and the Chief Executive Office of the UIC, retrace, on the occasion of its Golden Jubilee, the major events in the history of this organization since it was formed in 1922, explaining its origins, its development on a parallel with administrative, technical and economic evolution, its adaptation at the world level (80 railways now members) and its achievements; they then describe the present organization with special reference to the General Secretariat.
