LE TURBOTRAIN EXPERIMENTAL TGV 001
The author states why a high-speed experimental turbotrain has been designed for speeds in excess of 250 km/h. It is a self-propelled motor trainset which benefits from the SNCF experiments, achievements and experience in this sphere; new solutions are incorporated which whill be tested before making final decisions and proceeding to the production stage for operation over the very high-speed lines planned in France: Aerodynamic research and comfortproving trials characteristics and arrangement of the power cars (turbomotor units), trailer cars thermic and electrical (transmission) equipment, the particularly powerful brakes, and finally air-conditioning and fire prevention.
