Do drivers show different behaviour towards intersecting cyclists and intersecting drivers? : experimental questionnaire study among drivers in urban traffic situations.
Maken automobilisten in hun gedrag onderscheid tussen kruisende fietsers en automobilisten? : experimentele vragenlijststudie onder automobilisten naar verkeerssituaties binnen de bebouwde kom.
One of the most hazardous situations for cyclists is interaction with motorized traffic. Frequently, assumptions are made in policy making and road design about the manner in which motorized traffic deals with vulnerable road users. Yet few of these assumptions have been the subject of systematic research. Better insight in the way in which drivers interact with vulnerable road users and which factors have an influence on these interactions, can be useful for road safety improvement. The present study investigated whether drivers allow for the vulnerability of other road users. The way in which drivers deal with intersecting cyclists on 50 km/h roads was compared with how they deal with intersecting drivers on the same roads.
