TILTING VEHICULE BODIES--PROBLEMS AND PERSPECTIVES
L'INCLINAISON DES CAISSES DES VEHICULES PROBLEMES ET PERSPECTIVES
Much research has been carried out on the tilting of vehicle bodies in order to compensate for insufficient cant and increase comfort and speed on curves. The author refers to the principles governing this research and classifies the methods adopted for the present study. He concludes that: 1) natural vehicle body swing is insufficient and assisted tilting is necessary; 2) the time lag between detection and actual tilting is one of the fundamental difficulties to be overcome, 3) compensation for insufficient cant can result in either increased comfort in vehicles travelling at present speeds, with a maximum tilt of 4 degrees, or the higher speed (approximately 20%) of motor trainsets with a tilt of 6-9 degrees.
