The reasons leading to the study of this system of track laying are given in an introduction. The actual method used, particularly in tunnels, as well as the resulting advantages, are then explained. In his article, the author describes the choice of the test section situated in an area with exceptionally varied soil foundation layers, gives details of the work involved, explains how it was carried out, as well as accessory or connected work completed simultaneously. He closes by drawing the first conclusions, which appear favourable, from this relatively recent experiment.
