Urban Infrastructure Challenge

Reliable infrastructure is necessary for cities to function and thrive. Today, 76 percent of the United States population lives in cities, and that percentage is expected to grow. At present, the amount of investment going into infrastructure is not enough to ensure its reliability. It is necessary to improve the planning and design methods of urban areas to support sustainable infrastructure, in order to improve cities not just for the present, but also for the future. Planning, design, and delivery need to be rethought, and processes and technology must be modernized. Recent technology, including three-dimensional modeling, can aid the process in order to move forward with the development of cities.
