Performance Measures in the DWI System
This report is based on discussions at the 8th Annual Meeting of the Working Group on Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) System Improvements held September 21st-23rd, 2011 in St. Louis, Missouri. This report focuses on current performance measures in the criminal justice system's treatment of impaired driving. It starts with a look at traffic safety performance measures specific to DWI. The majority of the report focuses on five areas within the criminal DWI system: law enforcement, prosecution, sanctioning, supervision, and treatment. Current performance measures are listed for each area and models and resources, limitations, future efforts, and additional considerations are discussed. The final chapter includes general performance measurement recommendations.
