Technical and Safety Efficiency of HZ Infrastructure

The paper analyzes the utility value of Croatian Railways (HZ) Infrastructure from several aspects. The technical level was analyzed through characteristics of railway networks, commercial speed, technical and legal aspects, speed on the Pan-European corridors, and traffic safety and environmental features of HZ Infrastructure. Since the state of infrastructure capacities affects the cost of passenger and freight transport, the study presents very important parameters which warn of a very poor state of HZ Infrastructure and the necessity of investing in the infrastructure. The task of the production and development policy of HZ Infrastructure should be directed to the fact that infrastructure and suprastructure need to be consolidated as soon as possible in order to improve rail transport in terms of being raised to a higher security, and technical and technological level, and in order to reduce the maintenance and operational expenses to a level that would allow raising of competitiveness on the European transport market.
