Reflections on Rail Politics 2014
The major rail issues of 2014 look to remain similar to those of 2013. These issues include new regulations, long-term funding for surface transportation, positive train control implementation, and truck size and weight. However, the political environment has been known to change quickly. Since the government shutdown in October 2013, there has been a more positive and productive outlook, which many transportation professionals find encouraging. There has been an increase in bipartisan cooperation, and transportation is often a bipartisan issue, so many in the industry are hopeful for progress in the new year. So far, there has been a great deal of good news, with funding and safety in particular getting attention.
