A TWO-STAGE QUEUE MODEL FOR A MARSHALLING YARD
In the above article, the author develops a two-stage waiting file model, making use of the corresponding mathematical data, for a marshalling yard having reception sidings and sorting humps. This model is based on the conventional models covering waiting-file theories. In the case under notice, it is no longer necessary to take the waiting time at the hump into account, as all the frequency divisions of the time during which the tracks are occupied are acceptable, so far as both the waiting times at the hump, and on the reception sidings, are concerned. In order to apply this model, the author transposes it on graphs, with the help of numerical data, thus establishing, on the one hand, the waiting times on reception sidings, and, on the other, the use of hump-shunting locomotives.
