URBAN TRAFFIC NOISE
This report is the work of a consultative group on transportation research growing out of the proliferation of urban noise sources and traffic noise in particular. Results of traffic noise measurements are described. Recommendations for government policies towards traffic noise in the urban environment are drawn up encompassing regulatory controls, costs, research and international cooperation. Technical details concerning the urban noise environments, its effects on individuals, and methods of control through source modifications, operational procedures, barriers and building design are included. The appendices describe the current administrative and legislative practices in the member countries of the OECD and some directives concerning maximum noise levels in the European Economic Community.
