LONG TERM DISTRIBUTION OF NORTH SEA WAVES
This reports the results of weather and wave observations made during an eleven year period starting in 1959 at two different locations in the North Sea. Among the meteorological parameters that are reported every three hours are visual observations of wave heights and periods. The results show that environmental conditions in the North Sea are severe. To some extent it may be difficult to comprehend that a wave height of 25 meters can occur at all. Measurements seem to indicate that predictions are correct. Another point is the need for more data to show wind and wave variation with respect to location, direction and season. But the details already gathered should assist the offshore designer to appreciate the weather conditions to be expected.
