LTE displays potential in Zhengzhou
Zhengzhou is the first metro in the world to adopt a fourth generation (4G) Long-Term Evolution (LTE). It is initially being used to host onboard passenger information and closed circuit television (CCTV) services, alongside separate systems for its ground-based information technology (IT) networks, Tetra voice systems, and communication-based train control (CBTC) signalling. In 2014 tests will begin to host the metro's CBTC signalling on LTE, as well, with a complete switchover planned for the end of the year, if successful. With passengers increasingly demanding access to heavy data applications while on the move, LTE solutions are increasingly appealing.
