NEW DRILLSHIP HAS SOPHISTICATED POSITIONING AND DRILLING EQUIPMENT

A new vessel to be used as an offshore drilling platform is described. This vessel is equipped with several important design features, these being a dynamic positioning system, cycloidal propellers for propulsion and station keeping, and a flume stabilization system to dampen ship motions due to rolling. The dynamic positioning system, which utilizes a digital computer, is described in detail, with the cycloidal propellers, stabilization system, power equipment and drilling equipment also discussed. The use of all of these features enable this vessel to operate in deep water during very adverse weather conditions.
