Methodology for Monitoring and Evaluation of Traffic Conflicts

Metodika sledovani a vyhodnocovani dopravnich konfliktu

The methodology describes a standardised procedure of training, monitoring and evaluating of road traffic safety on the basis traffic conflicts. The text consists of three parts: The theoretical part introduces a history of the methodology with significant relations. The aims, benefits, and key terms are explained. The methodology is based on the practical part, since it includes instructions how to perform the monitoring and evaluation. The mentioned procedures can be applied on junctions and road segments between junctions in urban as well as in rural areas. Sample examples are included in the final part. Three examples from the real world illustrate the whole process of monitoring and evaluation. This part may be also used as a complement to the previous instructions, e.g. in the form of a checklist, where users are able to confirm their steps. The methodology is a final outcome of the project KONFLIKT (Methodology for Monitoring and Evaluation of Traffic Conflicts in the Czech Republic) and uses experience and data collected within its duration. The methodology should particularly by used as “instructions”, i.e. it does not contain detailed calculation descriptions and deduction of some conclusions. However, such information can be found in a number of commonly published outcomes listed in the references, and they are also available on the project website http://konflikt.cdvinfo.cz/. The web pages will be used as a continuously updated and complemented information source. In addition, the project website contains two interactive methodology applications (training applications and visualization applications).
