BRIDGE DESIGN IN RELATION TO CASUALTIES
This article intends to show that the actual design of a navigation bridge, along with its associated equipment, has been a contributing factor in marine casualties, both collisions and groundings. The inadequacies of bridge designs of 10 to 20 years ago that are in use today are discussed, as are the several different interest groups that deal in the development of bridge equipment. The layout of the equipment on the bridge is also discussed, with descriptions of how the location of the equipment could and has contributed to marine casualties.
