GLOBTIK TOKYO ENTERS PG-KURE SERVICE
A description is given of the 483,000 dwt VLCC 'Globtik Tokyo', which recently completed its maiden voyage from the Persian Gulf to Japan. Descriptions of the cargo tanks include explanations of the type of bulkheads employed in different tanks. Preparatory work on the design of the tanker included extensive stress and strength calculations, and predicted high stress regions on the hull were strengthened accordingly. The design and construction of the propeller shaft and shaft seal arrangement, the type of cargo oil pumps, the tank cleaning system and inert gas and foam fire extinguishing system are all briefly discussed, and a description of the main machinery plant and equipment is also included in the article.
