TECHNOLOGY AND HUMAN VALUES: THE "CIRCLE OF ACTION"
Today there is a "circle of action" in which changes in technology bring on changes in human values and therefore changes in technology. The engineer, intimately involved in this circle of action, has the special responsibility to ponder consequences and to disseminate information concerning the possible effects of his innovations on the human value system. To do this he must develop a much closer working relationship with the humanist. He must come to understand the interrelationships of technology and human values and, indeed, what constitutes the good life.
