HOMOPOLAR MACHINES
HOMOPOLARMASCHINEN
The homopolar machine is a special design of synchronous machine in which both the a.c. winding and the d.c. excitation winding are accommodated in the stator. Rotation of the toothed rotor produces flux variations in the a.c. winding thus generating a voltage. Since the rotor is made from solid steel and has no winding, it is suitable for very high speeds. The machine can operate as a generator or as a converter-fed motor.
