UNDERGROUND RAILWAYS IN URBAN RAPID TRANSIT SERVICE
U-BAHN, DIE STADTSCHNELLBAHN FUER DIE SWEITE EBENE
Modern underground railways are an effective means of relieving traffic congestion in large cities. They operate at speeds of up to 80 km/h with close headways and can transport some 35,000 passengers per hour and direction. Standard electrical equipment incorporating long design experience and using field-proven components has been developed for modern motor coaches. Typical features include compensated traction motors for longitudinal drive arrangements, electronically controlled cam controllers, separately excited rheostatic braking systems and static thyristor converters for the controlled power supply of batteries and auxiliary systems.
