CANADIAN PORTS AND THE CONTAINER

The impact that containerization has had on Canadian ports is described in terms of container traffic and special facilities installed at ocean and Great Lakes ports. Patterns of container movements are examined, taking cognizance of the St. Lawrence Seaway and inter-relationships with railway and highway systems. Factors entering into the decision to equip a port for container operations are reviewed.
