Using Science to Inform Marine Planning
Marine planning focuses on economic activity, sustainable coastal and ocean resource utilization, conservation and user conflict, through an ecosystem based management approach. The ocean is used for a variety of purposes and activities, and some of the uses can interfere with others. Competing interests necessitate the careful management of U.S. coasts and the ocean. Science can be helpful in marine planning by offering information and frameworks that encourage better resource management and ocean stewardship.
