RPI-AAR TANK CAR SAFETY PROJECT READY WITH INITIAL RECOMMENDATIONS
The railroad industry itself--as well as individual suppliers of rail equipment and the Department of Transportation--has long been on the trail of a cure for the derailment. In-depth research into track/train dynamics is currently being carried out under the guidance of the Association of American Railroads. One of the key objectives is derailment prevention. Just winding down is a far-reaching study into the performance of tank cars in accidents and the means of improving their resistance to punctures and ruptures when involved in these accidents.
