ENGINE REBUILD SHOP SET UP BY GE

While the remanufacture of electrical components can be integrated quite readily with the production of new parts, General Electric has decided this is not the best possible way to handle diesel engines and their subassemblies. Until May, GE's engines were remanufactured at Erie, Pa. and capacity was limited to about two per week. The number of diesels has increased and more of them are accumulating up to a decades service. Hence GE planners saw the need for a greater rebuilding capacity for these reasons GE has opened a new engine remanufacturing facility at Gover City, Pa., about 70 miles south of Erie, Pa., where the locomotives and their prime movers are produced.
