Sustainable Urban Logistics: Concepts, Methods and Information Systems

More thought has been given to urban logistics by researchers, practitioners and public administrations since the 1990's. However, several approaches do not produce efficient logistics systems, as the interests and goals of the above are not the same. It is the goal of this book to provide both a conceptual framework for urban logistics planning and management and to reduce the main nuisances related to urban goods by creating a basis for deploying their solutions. The first part of this book aims to support decision makers in their current choices related to urban logistics by proposing a set of methodological chapters highlighting the importance of private actors, in addition to public authorities' aims and goals. It shows how the problems of the last urban mile and its integration in global logistics chains can be dealt with through supply chain management. In the second part of this book, several applied research works are presented that deal with current planning and practice issues in urban logistics. Some examples of these, among others, are the role of city planning, the limits of logistics pooling, the real estate market, and the place of night deliveries in carrier organization.
