DEVELOPMENT AND TEST OF THE GENERAL 70-E TRUCK FOR BARTD
A new transit truck, the General 70-E, has recently undergone extensive testing on the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District's 4 1/2 mile test track at Concord, Calif. This paper outlines the basic design principles to be considered in the development of a truck; describes how these principles were incorporated in the General 70-E design; and presents the results of laboratory and road tests. Apart from a discussion of results, the authors have sought to achieve a broader significance in setting forth a logical procedure for the complete development of a transit truck, from concept through service testing.
