The North American Ice Service: A decade of collaboration
A close and trusting relationship has existed between Canadian and U.S. ice experts since the 1912 tragic sinking of the Titanic. The North American Ice Service (NAIS) developed from this relationship, and the inherent partnerships it represents has well served both Canada and the United States. The mission of NAIS is to enhance, leverage and strengthen the collaboration among the U.S. National Ice Center, the Canadian Ice service, and the International Ice Patrol. The efforts of the NAIS include supporting environmental and weather modeling, climate and research comprehension, efficient and safe maritime operations, environmental and national security, and international treaties.
