General Aviation Standards

This article highlights the activities of a new ASTM International technical committee, Committee F44 on General Aviation Aircraft. The scope of the new committee is the development and maintenance of internationally accepted standards and guidance materials for general aviation aircraft. Committee F44 was formed to support the efforts of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Part 23 Aviation Rulemaking Committee, which is charged with making recommendations that will bring increased flexibility to the certification process for new general aviation aircraft. The standards developed by ASTM Committee F44 for the design and airworthiness of general aviation aircraft will help better align aircraft certification requirements with the type of operation the aircraft experience.
