DEVELOPMENT OF AN ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY GROUND GRANULATED BLAST-FURNACE SLAG BLENDED CEMENT WITH A LIMESTONE POWDER
An environment-friendly cement was developed to control greenhouse gas (carbon dioxide) emissions by replacing some of the ground granulated blast-furnace slag blended cement with limestone powder (content of ground granulated blast-furnace slag is fixed to 44 percent). Reducing the water-to-binder ratio was necessary for cement containing 15 to 25 percent limestone powder to obtain a 28-day compressive strength equivalent to that of type B ground granulated blast-furnace slag blended cement. However, the concrete was found to be less base cement was necessary than for type B ground granulated blast-furnace slag blended cement, reducing carbon dioxide emissions from the cement by 14%. And durability of the concrete was found to be equal to that of concrete using type B ground granulated blast-furnace slag blended cement.
