Pre-collision System Benefit Estimation Method Based on Rear-end Collisions Generated by ASSTREET
A novel method is proposed to estimate the benefits of active safety systems. The method is applied to a PCS (Pre-collision system) as an example to show its process and its benefits. A virtual traffic flow simulating an actual traffic is firstly created by ASSTREET, and then the system benefits are measured for virtual collisions generated in the flow that represent actual rear-end collisions. The advantage of the method is that a mass of collisions enables to evaluate the system specification differences quantitatively and clearly points out the region that the systems are expected to work effectively.
