INVESTIGATION OF THE DISTRIBUTION OF SHIP ARRIVALS IN A LINE SERVICE
A mathematical model is described for the daily arrivals of an operational ship line, taking into consideration the requirements for an efficient schedule. The distribution of ship arrivals was analyzed with the aid of an analogue computer. The analogue computer permits the determination of the family of curves for any given arrival parameter of the Poisson-distribution flow. This family of curves is a valuable aid in controlling the harbor operations. The method also permits the joint analysis of arrivals in a harbor served by more than one ship line.
