Technical Approach to Secure Cargo Tracking and Monitoring at Border Crossings

Movement of commerce across international borders must be secure and free from contraband. The Secure Cargo Tracking and Monitoring system uses technology and software to ensure that selected shipments can be trusted, and the system notifies appropriate authorities should any unusual event occur. TransCore is operating a Secure Cargo Tracking and Monitoring system using intelligent software and state-of-the-art tracking and monitoring technology. The system is designed to track and monitor over-the-road (OTR) cargo movements, in-cab activities, tractor/trailer (conveyance) separation, and status from point of loading (stuffing) to point of destination (deconsolidation). The system generates information that is combined with traffic, weather and other real-time local information that may impact cargo security and transport, ensuring the following: employees involved are vetted and trusted; loading process starts with a clean and empty trailer; cargo is secure and properly loaded, trailer door is closed, locked and properly sealed; driver is vetted and biometrically identified prior to entering the tractor cab and departing the facility with the shipment; route compliance is tracked; and unusual events tracked, recorded and appropriate alerts generated.
