COMPRESSED AIR BRAKING OF LARGE SHIP ENGINES
The article presents a solution of the problem of cyclic stopping of ships driven by compression-ignition engines by applying compressed air to the engine during a compression stroke. In critical situations it is thus possible to change the direction of rotation of a ship propeller in a minimum of time.
