Eye Tracking System Development for Vehicle Application
A sensor to detect driver’s eye gaze angle is under development to prevent car accidents caused by inattentive driving. An image-processing algorithm calculates eye gaze angle by detecting pupil center and estimating eyeball center. To estimate it, our algorithm uses Cornea Reflection Method (CRM) and Eyeball Model Fitting Method (EMFM). If Purkinje image, which is a reflection of lighting from cornea, is detected, eye gaze angle is calculated from CRM. On the other hand, if Purkinje image is not detected, it is calculated from EMFM. The algorithm performs robustly under various facial shapes.
