EROSION CAUSED DAMAGE TO ENGINE AND STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS ON SHIPS
The author has presented a detailed analysis of the causes of erosion in the marine environment and the effects of erosion-caused damage on the engine and structural components of naval vessels. The various sources of premature failure or destruction of machine and structural components are discussed and a classification of causes proposed. The individual forms of erosion damage are analyzed on the basis of a schematic presentation illustrating the effect of a wide range of factors on the erosion process. A brief discussion of techniques which may be employed to combat erosion is also included.
